Sometimes I wonder if we really know what being like Jesus is. I do however, believe that a lot of people are really trying to do just that. “To be like Jesus. To be like Jesus. On earth I long to be like Him. All through life’s journey, from earth to Glory, I only ask to be like Him.” What a great old song. Even though we may not fully comprehend what all being like Jesus entails we are striving for that goal.
I love the fact that Jesus loved us enough to give His life on the cross. I also love the fact that He came to “give life, and that more abundantly”. I love the fact that He turned water to wine so the wedding party/celebration could continue with flair. I love the fact that He loved children and that they were comfortable around Him. He never condemned someone who was asking for help. He honored peoples faith above everything else. He ate with sinners and saints alike. He prayed. He wept. There is so much to the life of Jesus Christ that it is almost incomprehensible. However, as I learn of Him, I want to try to be like Him.
Carry on people! Enjoy life! Live for Him to the best of your abilility! Grow in grace and knowledge and become like Him a little more every day.
I grew up hearing that chorus and it always touched my heart. It happens to be one of my favorites and even more so as the years go by. I agree with your post and found it interesting.
If Jesus hadn’t come to earth and walked amongst us… we wouldn’t have the example of how to be like him. I think that is an example us to follow. We are in this world, but not of it. People need to see us living life to the fullest and being the “Jesus on earth” that people see everyday. It’s a BIG responsiblity… but the rewards are great!
God is awesome God…
Thanks for your insight… you’ve got my thoughts “flowing” this morning!
I thought of another song too after I read this post.
It’s my desire to live for Jesus,
It’s my desire to be just like Him;
Though often I’ve failed Him and brought Him much shame,
It’s my desire to live for Him.
It’s my desire to help someone today,
Someone who may have failed to see the way;
I, too, was once so lost, but I found my way to God,
It’s my desire to live for Him.
If you could see where Jesus brought me from,
To where I am today;
Then you would know the reason why I love Him so,
Now you can take this world’s wealth and riches,
I don’t need earth’s power;
It’s my desire to live for Him.
May the Lord keep that desire to be like Him burning in our hearts. Great post!
Love,
Carol
Carefully, and probably with some reservations, I say I want to be like Jesus. I certainly want His attitude and His mind. Truthfully, it’s hard for me to desire being rejected, spat upon, and crucified. Yet, I know as Jesus, that I must drink that cup–if that one comes to my lip. And ultimately, I do want to be like Him.
Great post.
This is a wonderful post. I agree with what you wrote whole-heartily.
Ever since Kyle returned from Soulwinners Bootcamp he’s been saying, “What would Jesus do?” Jesus went to the people. He ministered to their needs. He preached to them and healed them. That’s what I want to, and we need to do. Like last Saturday, Kyle and I went door to door through a neighborhood. A lady asked us to come in and pray for her since she had just had open-heart surgery, so we did. That’s what Jesus would do.
I want to be like Jesus and preach the gospel, pray for the sick, love the children, and meet people’s needs.
Then, there’s the other side that Sis. Buxton mentioned. The sacrifice he gave for us. If I truly mean what I say when I say I want to be like Jesus, then I must sacrifice my life for the world. Not die a physical death, but yield my own will to God’s will and say, “Whatever the cost to save a lost and dieing world.”
I don’t think I will become exactly like Jesus until He comes to take me home, but I will try with all my heart – failing at times, but trying over and over.
Yes, Ma’am, Sis. Hurst, I will: “Enjoy life! Live for Him to the best of your abilility! Grow in grace and knowledge and become like Him a little more every day.” I love you. 😀
P.S. There are somethings about you that I’m trying to be like. 🙂
“Carry on people! Enjoy life! Live for Him to the best of your abilility! Grow in grace and knowledge and become like Him a little more every day.”
Great advice. Many blessings your way friend.
Oh, to be like Him. Great post.
I am trying to find out who sings To Be like Jesus, How long to be like Him?
Thank you.
Yours Because Of Calvary.
