Tonight at 7:00 we start chorale and music practices again. We have been on a summer break. It has been nice (I guess) but I am ready to get back into the groove. I have been listening and listening some more to music and more music and going through sheet music etc. for days now. I think I look like a music note. Oh well, such is the life of the music minister. Tonight we will start on Christmas. Yes, Christmas. We will be having a Christmas concert this year so now is the time to get it all together. You sure can’t wait until 2 weeks before the event and expect it to turn out good. We will also be working on a song for “All Nations Sunday” which is in October. Well…..I might wait on that one until Sunday. We’ll see tonight how it goes with Christmas. We will be working on a medley of songs tonight: Hallelujah to the Newborn King/Hark! The Herald Angels Sing/Angels we have Heard on High/I Came to Magnify. This is from “Magnify, A Soulful Christmas Celebration”, arranged by J.Daniel Smith and Mark Condon. If you don’t have this musical you should purchase it. There is some really good songs on here and nice arrangements too. Well, I better be off to finishing up with some music stuff. God bless!

I love that Mark Condon Christmas musical. If someone wanted to they could do the whole thing straight through for a complete production – or you can pull out your favorites and do them as individual songs. I think my favorite arrangement is “Oh Holy Night”. Have fun! I’m actually to the point of considering starting a chorale or choir or something. I think I’d have about 15 people in it!!!
Karla, You should start a chorale. It would be awesome!
Yes, it is that time and – most of my music was destroyed in the flood and the rest was hurriedly packed into boxes and sent to storage. I never dreamed that over four months later I would still not have my house repaired and boxes unpacked. Even if I went to storage, I wouldn’t have the faintest idea of what box of music had Christmas music. I think I will be really behind this year!
I love Christmas and I love musicals. We have done so many it would be hard for me to name a favorite, but I think heading the list would be “Christmas People” by Geron Davis (which we did with an international theme and added the children’s choir singing “It’s A Small World”) and the old Lanny Wolfe “Thou Shalt Call His Name.” In 1982 We did the Lanny Wolfe one and I played the entire musical on the grand piano. My fingers were so tired! Now, it is fun to get the trax and have all the huge orchestration.
Jana, I am so sorry you guys are still having to wait on your house. I know you will be soooo happy to get home!
I remember all those musicals. Wasn’t that “fun” to have to learn how to play ALL the music? lol I love having the trax!!!
