Can’t Keep Up
Friday,May 16, 2008 by iluv2prshim
I can’t seem to keep up with “health” issues these days. First they tell you that chocolate is bad for you, now it’s good for you. Then they say that drinking wine is not good for you, now they say you should have a glass of red wine every day for something. I can’t remember. (of course this one doesn’t effect me one way or the other.) Eggs use to be bad for you now we should eat two a day. Tofu is good, oh no! it’s bad. Dairy is bad, oh no! Now it’s good. I can’t keep up! For instance, I just read this somewhere…Start your day with a healthy buzz! Drink three cups of coffee a day, and a new study says you can reduce your risk of ovarian cancer by more than 20%! Drink more, and you’ll reduce your risk even further! Caffeine affects hormones that contribute to the development of the disease, researchers say. And then they give this extra little tip: Drink a cup of coffee after your workout—studies show it eases soreness. Wasn’t caffeine really bad for us just a few days ago? Oh my! Like I said, I can’t keep up.
NO KIDDING - who are these health experts anyway, and who is paying them to tell us conflicting messages all the time!!?? I go with my gut - it hasn’t failed me yet, haha.
I can’t keep up with it either. I just try to exercise moderation in all these areas. (except for wine, which I don’t drink at all) Of course, it is difficult to be moderate when it comes to chocolate!
The problem is that many products are good for one thing, bad for another. I think it’s all about finding balance and adressing the issues that are most important in your life. For instance if ovarian cancer runs in your family, it is a good idea to try and minimize the risk of that by adapting your diet. But if heart problems runs in the family, as it does in mine, the advice would be very different.
Ronda, as the old saying goes, “Live and learn. Die and forget it all!” LOL! Enjoy life. As Mother use to say when she would get overwhelmed, “Just forget it! Let’s go EAT!” LOL!
Awwwww…that is such a cute saying, Sis. Elms (Linda), that your mother would say!
LOL!
I get confused, too! Sigh. I like what theepiphany (wish I knew her name
) said. Go with your instinct.
I try to live by this rule (as far as food goes):
Eat mostly what God made and mostly in it’s natural state.
Keep processed foods to a major minimum.
No fast food (well…In & Out every now and then).
But, I do believe, down in my heart, that ice cream is good for you once in a while.
Oh, and hot fudge must go with it.
Great post!
As a old Doc I think it all cycles in fads, like ties. Wide, then narrow, then wide again. Medication recommendations go through the same cycles. Things that were out of favor twenty years ago are hip again today, often because someone wants academic recognition.
The experts recycle the same opinions but allow just enough time to elapse so folks will forget it was recommended it a few years back. This makes the experts feel important.
I think humans have lived for tens of thousands of years without experts, and we do not need them as much as they want us to believe.
Obviously, we should not overeat, drink to excess or drink at all and drive, and not smoke, but my grandma knew that.
For the most part, we are going to live till we die, and should live in moderation and enjoy life while we are here.

Here’s to drinking more coffee. I love it! I wonder of this finding is sponsored by Starbucks. LOL
Katinkaspiritual and Dr. Tom Bibey, Welcome to my site. I’m certainly glad both of you stopped by and hope you visit often.
Moderation is key!
And…to everyone else, ditto! Moderation it is.
The best quote on this subject that I have ever heard is:
“Eat to live, don’t live to eat”. Now, if I can just follow that rule. They just make the “bad” stuff taste too good. That’s the problem.
Our bodies were designed to eat food. It is the industrialization of food - additives, preservatives - and the processing porcess that is the reason for the health problems we have today.
I read LifeExtension.org and have learned a lot.
I can’t keep up with what’s healthy and what’s not. Therefore, I am not sure if I’m healthy or not = one week the experts say I am, and the next they say that what I’m consuming is a “no-no”. What’s an old lady to do?
I’m SOOOOO glad chocolate is in right now, although I don’t allow myself very much of it (when I do, it is the dark kind)!
