Empty Nest

I have been extremely busy since we returned from Camp-meeting and haven’t had a whole lot of time to write. However, I was thinking this evening that soon and very soon I will have an “empty nest”. Danelle will be married in a few short days, 16 to be exact. I have mixed emotions. I am very happy for her and Matthew and happy that we are getting such a great guy for a son-in-law. But when I think about our “little golden girl” all grown up and no longer hearing her laughter in our home on a daily basis I kind of choke up.

When Danelle was born I think that half of Landmark (our church in Texarkana, Texas) was at the hospital. Everyone wanted us to have a little girl and when she was born you could hear cheers and laughter all down the halls. Nathaniel, our son was 2 years and 7 months old at the time and he was caught up in the excitement, and has been a good big brother ever since. No one could make Nathaniel laugh like Danelle. Many nights at the dinner table we ended up in hilarious laughter because of something Danelle said or did.  How could we ever forget “pedi-strain-ians”? and that was when she was older. Time nor space would grant me the privilege of writing all her antics here. Matt better be on his toes for this girl. LOL

I know that life goes on after the last child is grown and leaves home. And I am looking forward to what the future holds. I had just a moment tonight and shed a tear, remembering and being thankful for all the good times when the kids were at home and the “nest was full.”
