In Charles Swindoll’s book, Laugh Again he wrote this and I thought it worth repeating on my blog.  It is soooooo TRUE:

Our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with joyful shouting; then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” Ps. 126:2

Perhaps you find yourself among those in the if-only group.  You say you would laugh if only you had more money…if only you had more talent or were more beautiful…if only you could find a more fulfilling job.  I challenge those excuses.  Just as more money never made anyone generous and more talent never made anyone grateful, more of anything never made anyone joyful.

Without exception, people who consistently laugh do so in spite of, seldom because of anything.  They pursue fun rather than wait for it to knock on their door in the middle of the day.  Such infectiously joyful believers have no trouble convincing people around them that Christianity is real and that Christ can transform a life.  Joy is the flag that flies above the castle of their hearts, announcing that the King is in residence.

Fun Day

The Saturday after Thanksgiving we went over to Santa Cruz to look at a sail boat. (to long of a story to explain here)  It wasn’t much but the weather was great and we had a good time.  You can see by the picture how pretty it was.  Later that evening we ate on the wharf some fish and chips and oh yes a hot fudge sundae.  All good stuff.

The services yesterday were different in the fact that there was no drums, bass or guitar. The musicians were away with family for the holiday week-end.  Only piano and organ.  But, OH The presence of the Lord was there.  Danelle (our daughter) sang, “The Cross Said It All”, and the sweet presence of the Lord rolled in like a cloud.  When my husband took the pulpit afterward he told this:  He said, “Danelle came into my office before service and said, Dad I have three songs to sing today and named them and then asked me which one she should sing.  I didn’t tell her because I wanted her to find the mind of the Spirit for herself.”   When Danelle began to sing about the cross I noticed my husband began to weep.  He then told of how on Saturday Night he dreamed that Danelle was singing a song about Calvary and how the church was touched and how they worshipped.  It is so amazing how the Holy Ghost works.  As Nathan preached the power of God was so strong.  At the close of the sermon I began to sing, “We are standing on Holy Ground”.  I don’t know how many received the Holy Ghost but there were several new ones praying and more that was very touched at how God ministered to them personally.  Thank God for His Grace, Mercy and His presence. This is what makes Serving God so Beautiful. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

Everything is quiet! All the family and guests have gone home.  I don’t even have the oven on.  Lord knows I don’t need to cook anything.  There are plenty of left-overs and that is after I sent a lot home with everyone else.  I guess I’m still used to fixing for 20+ people and I only had 10 yesterday. lol  I don’t know if you other cooks can’t eat a lot once you sit down to the meal after having prepared it, but I can’t.  Oh, I nibbled and it was good but I just can’t seem to eat a full meal. Soooo, I went to bed at a fairly reasonable hour and then woke up at 2:35 a.m. “starving to death”.  lol  Got up, came down stairs and fixed myself a full Thanksgiving plate and ate it all.  Very good, if I say so myself. I know you probably never do that kind of thing but I enjoyed it.

Hope you are able to rest today after all the hustle and bustle of yesterday. Please tell me you are not tackling the malls or outlet centers.  Our outlet mall here opened at midnight last night and I heard on the radio (while I was eating at 2:45) that there were traffic jams on the freeway.  Oh My!  I just don’t think I’ve ever wanted anything that bad.  Shopping all night?  I don’t think so.  Not this girl.  Maybe you have a different take on it and you are one of those who like to shop.  I would like to understand but haven’t gotten it so far.  LOL

p.s. I’m getting my Christmas music out now. I love Christmas too.

The turkey give-away effort was awesome.  We gave to 150 households.  There was about 35 people who came to deliver the turkeys.  The people were so thankful and the people that participated felt so blessed.  When the scripture says that it is more blessed to give than to receive, it really is true.  When you experience it like we did this day the joy you feel is not explainable.  Here are just a few pictures.

This first one is of Kyle Valenti giving instruction to some of the folks. Thanks Kyle for your vision.   The next picture is of one of the neighbors that received a turkey.  He was very happy.

And even the children got involved

Well, I just took a beautiful Pecan Pie out of the oven.  There are 3 Coconut Cream Pies sitting on my counter that I made this morning.  I’m headed out in a couple of minutes to take one of the Coconut Creams to some friends. My pie crusts turned out sooooo good. (I just sampled) I will finish up the cornbread, biscuits, chopping onions and celery etc. for the dressing later this evening.  I will also make a pumpkin pie tonight.  Oh yeah, and yeast rolls.  My sister-in-law is bringing the ham and yams this year.  My mother-in-law is making her famous apple pie. There will be mashed potatoes, fried green beans, sweet corn, dressing, giblet gravy… Oh my, I just don’t know if we will have enough food. LOL

Nathaniel and Andrea flew out last night for Austin, TX where they will spend Thanksgiving with Andrea’s family.  ‘Than is already drooling over Cheryl’s (Andrea’s Mom) homemade cinnamon rolls.  Matthew and Danelle will be here with us.  Yes!  I just love Holidays.  It is so much fun.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Autumn is almost over.  It is cloudy here today and I was afraid if I waited to take this picture I would miss the beautiful leaves.  If it rains tonight they will most likely let go and fall to the ground.  This was taken out of my bedroom window.  Isn’t that beautiful?

If you look good enough you can see the hills in the background.

Keep On Singing

I like this poem/song, so thought I’d share it with you all. God has been so good to me, How Can I Keep from Singing?

How Can I Keep from Singing

My life flows on in endless song,

Above earth’s lamentations

I hear the real tho’ far off hymn,

That hails a new creation.

Thru all the tumult and the strife,

I hear that music ringing,

It sounds an echo in my soul,

How can I keep from singing?

What tho’ the tempest round me roars,

I know the truth it liveth,

What tho’ the darkness round me close

Songs in the night it giveth,

No storm can shake my inmost calm,

While to that rock I’m clinging—

Since love is lord of heaven and earth

How can I keep from singing?

As a girl, I used to sit on the edge of my parents bed and ask a million questions.  I didn’t think of it then, that they probably would really like to go to sleep, but they always took the time to answer or at least attempted to answer my questions.  The one subject that I always enjoyed getting on was the Millennial Reign of Jesus Christ because that was my Dad’s “candy stick”. His eyes would light up and he would get excited when he began talking about the thousand year reign of Jesus Christ on earth (Rev. 20). And how there would be great happiness and peace and how there would be human perfection etc.  It was hard for my mind to comprehend.  I would sometimes go to my bedroom and think about it until my mind would spin.  Daddy would talk about no more pain or suffering.  No death.  No sorrow.  No back-biting.  No gossip.  No tears of sorrow.  And the list goes on and on.  What would really get me is when he would go from talking about the Millennium to talking about eternity.  WOW!  Can you imagine what it will be like?  I have tried ever since I was a little girl to imagine it all but my mind still goes to spinning.  You see, I am confined by time right now but soon and very soon I will hear that trumpet sound and be caught away to meet my Lord and Savior!  What a Day that will be!  That is another thing that I can hardly comprehend but I know is true.  I will actually get to see Jesus Christ face to face.

When Daddy was on his death bed he said to my sisters and me that if God chose to heal him and he got up from there it would be a miracle and he would be happy.  However, if God did not choose to heal him in this life and took him in death that it was His perfect will and for us not to fret, because one of these days we would all meet in front of the throne and then we would know that everything he preached for 50+ years was really real.  I am looking forward to that day.  I don’t want to get to attached to this world and miss out on the next.

This world is not my home.  I’m just passing through.  My treasures are laid up, somewhere beyond the blue.  The angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door.  And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.

Keep looking for the second coming of Jesus Christ.  Let’s not get distracted because the Bible said that He is coming for those who are looking for Him.  Lift up your head, redemption draweth nigh!

Tomorrow our church will be giving away about 200 turkeys for Thanksgiving.  We will give them to people that would not normally be able to buy them for themselves.  Pray for these people and their families that God will especially bless them this Holiday season.  And may God bless you and your families well.
