Last Wednesday Night after church I was talking to Brenda in our church about a great thing that has happened on her job. She is very soft spoken so I was intently listening to her and not letting anything around me distract. When all of a sudden I kind of looked beyond her with a flicker of my eye and caught a glimpse of my two sisters, Linda and Karla standing right behind her. OH MY!!! I started jumping and laughing and kind of whooping all at the same time. They came out to surprise me for my 50th Birthday. I’ll have more on that later. We have had so much fun this week-end.

Here’s a few pics of the Wednesday Night Surprise. 🙂

Christian LIVING implies the idea of being alive. Being alive implies movement. Movement implies direction. Direction implies destination.

When Paul wrote to the church in Phillipi he noted the focus of his life as a Christian. Even though he had been involved in much fruitful ministry, instead of resting on his past successes, his involvement in the work of God continued. Not only was this necessary for the sake of others, but when action ceases, the life tends to become stagnant or complacent and soon one can find themselves slipping away.

Philippians 3: 12-14

Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Paul always made diligent effort to press upward and strain forward. To press on in spite of challenges (even through his present imprisonment) implies DETERMINATION! No coasting, but rather PURPOSEFUL MOTION! Is our life marked in the same manner or have we chosen the path of least resistance? Have we decided to sit down where we are and go no further? This Christian life does take determination. It does take effort. It must be approached purposefully. It won’t just happen by itself anymore than getting to the top of a mountain will. We have to purposely put one foot in front of the other and press onward and upward. We must choose our steps carefully and ask the Lord’s guidance.

May God richly bless you as you continue walking and pressing onward and upward on purpose.

Copy of 100_1304 Today was my mother’s-in-law birthday. I’m thankful that she is here with us so we can celebrate with her. At dinner tonight she asked us all to tell a story about us and her, and oh my, did we have fun with that one. Looking back over the years was very colorful indeed. From the youngest grandchild to the oldest sibling everyone had a story to tell. I am delighted to have my mother-in-law living here now. I am still gleaning tid bits of wisdom from her. She just has a way of saying things that you would have to know her to understand. Happy Birthday Mom! I love you BUNCHES!

First Day of Spring

pacific-grove.jpg
The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another.
The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month.
This quote is how I feel about spring this year. Did it seem to come quick for anyone else or is it just me? I’m not complaining, just wondering.

This past Saturday I was at the church office doing a little work for Sunday and low and behold I heard a roll of thunder. I really got excited and thought we are going to have a thunder storm. There was even a flash of lightening. I heard a couple more claps of thunder and thought the rain was surely soon to come. I left the church and headed home. Still no rain. When I got home I looked toward the hills and the pics below is what I saw. Still no rain. There was one more roll of thunder and then it was all gone. It never did rain but I loved hearing the thunder anyway. 🙂

Happy Birthday to my baby sister! It’s hard to believe that just last year I was flying to Texas to “surprise” you for your birthday. I wish I could be with you again this year too. Even though you are 9 years younger than me we have become best of friends and I’m thankful. I have always been super proud you are my sister even though you took the baby of the family place away from me. 🙂 You were always such a joy to our family. Oh the laughs! I wish we had written down all your cute sayings. Mother and Daddy were kept young for many years because of you and were so proud of you. I could go on and on but just let me say that I love you more than I could ever say and am proud of the woman you have become. Happy Birthday to my baby sister!
