Nathan, Nathaniel and I went up to Dodge Ridge to ski today.  We made a quick stop in Modesto on Monday Night to get some equipment and have dinner with our friends, Randy and Sharon Keyes.  Caught a couple of winks at the hotel and then up the mountain we went.  What an absolutely gorgeous day.  I didn’t even have to wear a neck warmer or ear muffs.  It was about 43 degrees and the sun was shining brightly.  This was our first run in a couple of years so we had a blast. 🙂  I hope to have more pics later.  The rest was taken on Nathaniel’s phone, so we will see if we can transfer them to here. 🙂

In September of this year, my cousin, Russell Pound began having chest and abdominal pain.  He went to the doctor and a chest x-ray showed some fluid around his lung.  A CAT scan revealed a thickening of the pleura, the lining around the lung.  He was diagnosed as having Mesothelioma after a biopsy was taken.  He was told that he has a  5% chance of living beyond the 13 month average after diagnosis.  However,  there was presented to them another option…to see a Dr. Sugarbaker in Boston.  Dr. Sugarbaker removes the offending pleura, the lung and part of the diaphragm, bathing the chest wall with heated chemo drugs.  So, now Russell and his wife, Barbara and their daughter, Tiffany are all in Boston.  They spent Christmas there.  I’m not sure how long he will have to be in Boston.  Their home is in in Tennessee.  I am praying this surgery and treatment work for Russell.  Will you join me in prayer?  Russell was one of my best friends while we were growing up. I would really like for the Lord to heal him completely and give him a long and prosperous life.

Russell, Paul, Michael, Me, Roger

These are my cousins, my mother’s oldest brother, James boys.  Michael passed away about 4 1/2 years ago.  He and Russell worked with my Uncle James in the pipeline construction industry. Over the years they laid many miles of asbestos concrete pipe.  They had no idea that the dust from the pipe could be lethal so wore no protection of any kind.  Just breathed it in day after day.  This is what has caused Russell’s problem.

Thank You for your prayers for Russell, Barbara and Tiffany. 51b4596e11e478a87a364a6

I believe God is able.

If you want to read more about Russell’s story, they have set up a CaringBridge web-site @ http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/russpound

Chirstmas Award

Jewel at Down In My Little Valley blessed me with the Christmas Spirit Award. We’ve just gotten to know one another through our blogs and her faith has touched me over the time that I have read her blog. Thank you Jewel. Another reason why I love Jewel is because she has my grandmother’s middle name. 🙂

The rules are to tag someone with this award that I know loves Christmas, and has Christmas spirit. They must link back to my blog to indicate where they were tagged, and they need to add 1 to 45 reasons why they love Christmas. So here goes!

Why I love Christmas:

1.  It is the one time of year that most everyone seems to be focused on Jesus.  Even though they may not know Him in all of His power and only think of him as a babe, I enjoy having them at least think about Him.

2.  It is the only time of year that secular radio allow songs with the words Jesus, Holy, Heavenly, etc. to be played on their stations. It’s a pleasure to listen to the radio during Christmas.  No, I never get tired of Christmas music.  I love it. 🙂

3.  I enjoy buying gifts for others.  It is fun keeping secrets and watching their eyes light up when they open their gifts.

4.  I love the houses all decorated with lights, reindeer, Santas, manger scenes, big lighted presents and Christmas trees.

5.  I love the smell of all the baking and cooking.  And yes, I love the food.  What other time do you make Snowball Cookies, Fudge and Martha Washington’s?

6.  I love going to church during the Christmas Season.  There is just something a little extra special during this time of the year.

7.  I LOVE the colors of Christmas.  Red and Green all over my house and nobody thinks it’s weird. Oh, and there are splashes of gaudy gold too. 🙂

Now I take great pleasure in tagging some of my friends: Tena, Mindy, Tina, Noel, Cassandra, Faith, Danelle, Susan and Becky.

Tuesday Night, December 16th, 2008 @ 6:30 p.m. the guests began to arrive at the home of Ron and Margie Abbott (Tulare, California).  Ministers and their wives from the San Diego area all the way up to the Sacramento and Bay Area came together for a great time of fun, food and fellowship.  What a great time we all had.  We ate and talked and talked and talked.  And laughed, and laughed some more.  Played a couple of crazy games together, thanks to Mickey Grogan.  We heard some very good “stories” from Gary Harding and Bill Parkey.  🙂  The meal was superb with salad, roast beef (bear meat), vegetables, chili beans that were awesome and the many desserts of which I tried to stay away from ( but I did taste the fudge).  🙂  Mmmm….good.  Then to top the evening off, Bobbie (Shoemake) sat down at the piano and we all gathered ’round to sing some Christmas Carols under the “direction” of Bill Parkey.  A great big shout out to Ron and Margie for their hospitality in opening their beautiful home to all of us.  We had a great time. 🙂  Merry Christmas!

It Bothers Me…

It really bothers me when someone is shown a truth in the Holy writ and still refuses to adhere to it.  In fact, it REALLY bothers me when asked, “do you believe the Bible” and they say, “well, not if it’s telling me I can’t continue to live this way”.  argh  How can people be so proud and think they will get by with that attitude?  I am amazed at how some folks don’t think the Bible applies to their life. My!  Is that ignorance or stupidity?  I can’t figure that one out.  I’m thankful that God is merciful.  Perhaps they will have another opportunity to make things right with the Creator.  How do people even think they can wake up in the morning with breath in their lungs without God giving it to them?  Do they think they are doing that of their own volition?  I know this, “I can’t even walk without Him holding my hand”.  Sorry if that sounds too dependent on God, but that is how I feel.  He is my everything!  He is my all!  He is my everything, both great and small!  I want to keep my “nose in the book” and make sure I am right with it.  Acts 17: 30-31 talks about how God once winked at ignorance (or allowed things to go by unnoticed) but now, He commands all to come to repentance.  For, He has appointed a day of judgement, and He will judge us from His word.  It bothers me when people don’t see this. Can you tell?  🙂  Those of you who believe the Word, keep on keepin’ on.  Don’t give up! Don’t get weary in well-doing!  Keep living by what is written in the pages of God’s beautiful word.  If you don’t faint, you will reap a great reward one of these days! Blessings!
