Lost Blogroll

Does anyone know why I have lost my blogroll?

This may seem a little sacrilegious to some folks, but bare with me for a little bit.

I grew up in a Pentecostal Preacher’s home.ย  I loved every minute of it.ย  Really!ย  When I was young and we would have a revival (extended series of services),ย we went to church every night of the week.ย  Then we progressed to having Saturday Nights with no service.ย  That was great because then we didn’t have to go to church on Saturday Night with curlers in our hair.ย  No hot rollers back in those days so we had to roll our hair Saturday Night so it would be pretty for Sunday.ย  Not quite sure why it wasn’t so important to be pretty on Saturday Night. ๐Ÿ™‚ย  Anyway…then we progressed to having Monday and Tuesday Nights off and having Revival services Wednesday through Sunday.ย  Ahhh..the joys.ย  Well,ย  in some of those long services when my friends and I would get a little bored we would make up things with the songs we sang in church.ย  Here are a couple we use to sing andย  then laugh ’til we cried.ย  My brother and sister was in on it too.ย  “Now lettuce (let us)ย  have a little chocolate (talk with) Jesus, Lettuce tell Him all about our bubbles (troubles)….”ย  and,ย  “I’ll fry (fly) an egg (away) Oh glory…” .ย  As I got older we still had fun with songs.ย  We would mix words up like, “Oh glory je to bejus let the rallelujahs hole….”(Oh Glory be to Jesus, let the Hallelujahs roll).

Other times people thought they heard something different then what was actually being sung.ย  A friend of ours, Bill Henry, who we (Nathan and I) sang with for many years, wrote hundreds of awesome songs.ย  One song he wrote, “Running Withย HEAVEN on My Mind”,ย  had to have a little word change, because the first time we sang it he had written it to say, “I’m running with WINNIN’ on my mind” and a man in our church was laughing after service because he said it sounded like we were singing,” I’m running with WOMEN on my mind.”ย  ๐Ÿ™‚ย ย ย  My mother-in-law said that when she was a little girl she couldn’tย ever understand why they would sing a song in church about aย cross-eyed bear name Gladly…”Gladlyย the cross I’d bare…”.ย  Singing is good for the soul but it can kind of get you trouble sometimes too.ย  For instance,ย one time when my Dad resigned from a church, he then asked Mother to sing and she sang, “It Will Take Me a Million Years to Thank the Lord”.ย  Probably not the best selection for the moment. ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, I hope you have enjoyed my little tour down memory lane.ย  I’m sure if you were raised in a preacher’s home you could tell some of your own stories.ย  Just thought I’d share a little church humor with you.ย  Hope you don’t think I’m horrible, but P.K.sย  are good at finding ways to have good fun, even in church. ๐Ÿ™‚

You know how you have to start spelling when your babies get old enough to recognize words?ย  You start spelling things like, “I think it’s time to put them down for aย  n-a-p”, so they don’t start crying, “No nap, mommy”.

This is where the “really bad” part comes in…When you start spelling around your dog.ย  Yes!ย  That’s right.ย  My sweet puppy has learned to recognize words like,ย  “walk”,ย  “bath”,ย  “the groomer”,ย  “outside” and so on.ย  These each evolk different reactions.ย  Izabelle really needs a “bath” gets me a “hang dog” look, tail between the legs and slinking off to find a place to hide.ย The other word that gets this treatment is,ย  It’s time for Izzy to go the “groomer”.ย  I looked for her for several minutes today before I could get her picked up and carried to the groomer.ย  Ha!ย  However, words like,ย  Do you want to go for a “walk” results in bouncing around, barking and snipping at our heals as if to say, “hurry, let’s go”.ย  “Outside” entails the same response as “walk” except this also means, “when I get out there I will bark and run toward the fence until I have awakened every dog in the neighborhood and they are barking right along with me”.

It’s REALLY BAD in my house folks.ย  We are spelling around our dog.

This is a warning!

Since joining Facebook it has been difficult to keep blogging.ย  It is so much easier to write a little status update.ย  So, here’s my warning to you…Don’t join Facebook if you want to keep a current blog. ๐Ÿ™‚ย  I really enjoy Facebook but it has definitely taken me away from the blogging world.ย  I think I am getting back to normalcy.ย  We will see. ๐Ÿ™‚

I feel especially honored that Shirley Buxton at WriteNow and Karen Hopper at A Jewel Divinely Rare awarded me as a Kreativ Blogger.

I, like Shirley, could not stop at just 7 things I love.ย  I could probably have written more but I didn’t want to bore you to death.ย  So, have fun reading a little about some of the things I love.

1.ย  My family.ย  Husband, children, parents, brother, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, in-laws.ย  YES, all of them. ๐Ÿ™‚

2.ย  The sound of 1,000 to 10,000 or more people clapping and praising God, like at a General Conference or Camp Meeting.ย  It sounds like a mighty rushing river.ย  Sometimes I just stop and listen.ย  It is AWESOME!

3.ย  Music. Just about any kind of music. I don’t particularly care for Bluegrass though.

4.ย  Pentecostal Preaching.ย  I have been blessed to hear some powerful messages in my 51 years.

5.ย  Fellowship. I guess I am somewhat of a “party animal”.ย  I love to be around old friends and I love to make new friends.ย  I could sit up all night with friends and/or family,ย  just talking and having fun.ย  Well, come to think of it,ย  I have done this on numerous occasions.

6.ย  Traveling in a Motor Coach.ย  One of these days we will own one again.

7.ย  A clean house.ย  Does this make me weird? Oh well, I don’t like clutter or dust. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

8.ย  The Mountains. Sierras or Rockies. They are both magnificent! The ocean/beaches of California.ย  All the way from San Diego to Crescent City.ย  Yes I’ve been all the way and it is all gorgeous!

9.ย  The scent of cedar and pine in the mountains, and the scent of ocean air over on the coast.

10. My Pentecostal Heritage.ย  I love it!ย  I am thankful and humbled that God allowed me to be raised in a Pentecostal Preachers home and that both paternal and maternal grandparents were Apostolic in doctrine and lifestyle.

It goes without saying that first and foremost, I LOVE GOD!ย  I love His word.ย  I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

tangerine friends

The 12th Chapter of Romans, in the 14th verse says, “Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep”.  The Message says it this way, “Laugh with your happy friends when they’re happy; share tears when they’re down”.

I love friends like this.  If you have a friend that something good has happened to, why not call them up (if you can’t be with them) and have a good ol’ rejoicing session!  You will be blessed as well as them.  If a friend is weeping now, sit down and cry with them.

There is another scripture that I love and it is, Galations 6:10—As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.  We give and give to reach people that are not saved and this is right.  However, don’t forget your friends that are in the church.  The ones that work beside you in the gospel work.  As the scripture above says, “especially” unto those of the household of faith. Let them know you care today.

I am so blessed to have these kind of friends in my life.  Let your friends know that you care today, one way or the other.  Happy or Sad.  Up or down.  They are your friends and they matter.  Let’s just make this our unofficial “Friend Day”.

Washington In George Washington’s day, there were no cameras. One’s image was either sculpted or painted. Some paintings of George Washington showed him standing behind a desk with one arm behind his back while others showed both legs and both arms. Prices charged by painters were not based on how many people were to be painted, but by how many limbs were to be painted. Arms and legs are ‘limbs,’ therefore painting them would cost the buyer more. Hence the expression, ‘Okay, but it’ll cost you an arm and a leg.’

Men Talking  Early politicians required feedback from the public to determine what the people considered important. Since there were no telephones, TV’s or radios, the politicians sent their assistants to local taverns, pubs, and bars. They were told to ‘go sip some ale’ and listen to people’s conversations and political concerns. Many assistants were dispatched at different times. ‘You go sip here’ and ‘You go sip there.’ The two words ‘go sip’ were eventually combined when referring to the local opinion and, thus we have the term ‘gossip.’

“I have yet to find the man, however exalted his station, who did not do better work and put forth greater effort under a spirit of approval than under a spirit of criticism”.ย  Charles Schwab

I am putting the finishing touches on my lesson for Mother’s Day.ย  I am teaching on Encouraging our children.ย  The above quote by Charles Schwab caught my attention and I wanted to share it with you.ย  EVERYBODY wants and needs to be appreciated, even our children and it doesn’t matter how young or old they are.ย  Do you know it takes 10 positive comments to overcome the effects of a negative one?ย  Find something good to say to them today and see how their eyes light up.

Okay, not going to teach my lesson on here.

Be blessed!
