Last week my sisters-in-law, Teresa Sarria and Patricia Hurst and myself took Mom (Dorothy Hurst) to Washington for Ladies Retreat. The retreat was held in beautiful Wenatchee, Washington. This all started with a phone call from Leah Seagraves, Ladies President, Washington District. She said that they would like to honor Mom for having started Ladies Retreat in their district 25 years ago and wanted to know if we thought we could make sure she got there. Well of course, we would do everything we could to get her there. We talked about it and planned, so on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at about 2: p.m. we piled into the “old” Lincoln and took off. Randy’s (mom and dad’s youngest son) girls, Shavon (13) and Danika (8) rode with us to Kennewick, WA. So… there was six of us in the car. We didn’t quite know how this was going to go but we needed to get the girls home (Kennewick). As it turned out, we had a blast! We laughed and talked and slept (a little) all the way. We drove straight through which was about 15 hours. I’m sure that Shavon and Danika will never forget the trip. ūüôā

Once in Kennewick we dropped the girls off at their home and then we got a room and slept for a few hours.

We awoke to a beautiful day in the Northwest and called Bro. Wayne Clemetson, pastor of the church that Mom and Dad pastored for 41 1/2 years to ask if we could see the newly remodeled church. He graciously said yes and met us there to give us the grand tour. They have done a beautiful job on the building and we enjoyed a little time with the Clemetson’s. May God richly bless them as they carry on the work at Apostolic Tabernacle, Kennewick, Washington.

Cindy Hansen (my other sister-in-law) who still lives in Kennewick, met us at the church and it was so good to see her. I always love to see Cindy’s big smile.

After the tour of the church, we headed over to Zips for a Papa Joe. This is one of our family’s all time favorite places for a good hamburger, french fries (with tartar) and something cold to drink. I’ve been in the Hurst family for 33 years (Sept. 2) now and was introduced to Zips from the very beginning and I love it just like they all do. We can never get near Kennewick and not stop in at Zips for a Papa Joe. We had a great visit with Cindy and then said our goodbyes and headed out to Wenatchee for Ladies Retreat.

The drive was beautiful, winding along the magnificent Columbia river and acres and acres of apple trees. We arrived at the Coast Wenatchee Center Hotel for Ladies Retreat with a couple of hours to spare before it all started at 7: p.m. August 12. When Mom got there, they had a hostess meet her and walk her to a reserved seat on the front row. Sis. Leah Seagraves stepped to the microphone and welcomed everyone and then especially welcomed Mom and said how honored she was that she was there. When she finished the ladies (all of them) began to applaud and stood to their feet and gave Mom a standing ovation. It was very touching. Bro. and Sis. Barnett the district superintendent also honored her with kind words. This was just the first night. Sis. Jalane Lumpkin brought the message and it was powerful. After service, we were all too tired to go out to eat so we went to the room and just ate a sandwich that Patricia so graciously walked across the street to a restaurant to get for us. Teresa has many friends in Washington district so she fellowshipped with them for awhile.

Friday was another great day in service with Karen Harding singing and speaking as only Karen can do. WOW! What a voice and what an anointing in both her singing and speaking.

Friday Night they had a big banquet and it was so good. Vicki Warren (ladies secretary) presented Mom with a beautiful cook book that the district ladies put together and dedicated it to Mom. They also had a beautiful bouquet of flowers for her. Vicki is from the Kennewick church and Mom was her Pastor’s wife all her life so the things she said about her were so beautiful. At one point ladies who had written a card for Mom, remembering past retreats brought them up front and put them in a basket for her. Sis. Leah said some beautiful things also and gave Mom such honor and respect. Thank you all for making Mom feel so special. I just have a feeling, that somewhere down the road of your life, you will receive double honor for the way you treated Dorothy Hurst at your retreat. You gave honor to whom honor was due and I believe the Lord smiles on you.

Saturday Morning we went to Leavenworth, WA. It is an absolutely gorgeous little town. We walked and shopped the quaint shops and had a good time. We then left there and traveled to Bend, Oregon. Headed home! We awoke on Sunday and drove the rest of the way to Hollister. We got home about 9: p.m. Sunday Night, August 15.

As you can see we had a very full 4 days. God was good to us and I am so thankful for this time I had with my dear mother-in-law. And, of course my sisters-in-law too. ūüôā

Louise Redden, a poorly dressed lady with a look of defeat
on her face, walked into a grocery store.

She approached the owner of the store in a most humble
manner and asked if he would let her charge a few groceries.

She softly explained that her husband was very ill and
unable to work, they had seven
children and they needed food.

John Longhouse, the grocer, scoffed at her and requested
that she leave his store at once..

Visualizing the family needs, she said: ‘Please, sir! I
will bring you the money just as soon as I can.’

John told her he could not give her credit, since she did
not have a charge account at his store.

Standing beside the counter was a customer who overheard
the conversation between the two. The customer walked
forward and told the grocer that he would stand good for
whatever she needed for her family. The grocer said in a
very reluctant voice, ‘Do you have a grocery list?’

Louise replied, ‘Yes sir.’ ‘O.K’ he said,
‘put your grocery list on the
scales and whatever your grocery list weighs, I will give
you that amount in groceries.’

Louise hesitated a moment with a bowed head, then she
reached into her purse and took out a piece of paper and
scribbled something on it. She then laid the piece of
paper on the scale carefully with her head still bowed.

The eyes of the grocer and the customer showed amazement
when the scales went down and stayed down.

The grocer, staring at the scales, turned slowly to the
customer and said begrudgingly, ‘I can’t believe it.’

The customer smiled and the grocer started putting the
groceries on the other side of the scales. The scale did not
balance so he continued to put more and more groceries on
them until the scales would hold no more.

The grocer stood there in utter disgust. Finally, he grabbed
the piece of paper from the scales and looked at it with greater amazement.

It was not a grocery list, it was a prayer, which said:

‘Dear Lord, you know my needs and I am
leaving this
in your hands.’

The grocer gave her the groceries that he had
gathered and stood in stunned silence.
Louise thanked him and left the store. The other customer
handed a fifty-dollar bill to the grocer and said; ‘It
was worth every penny of it.

Only God Knows how much a
prayer weighs.’

Saturday at 11:00 am.¬† they began to gather at the neighborhood park.¬† We never really know how many will show up, but we were once again surprised as between 350-400 people gathered.¬† The men and ladies of The Pentecostal Church were busy at work getting folks registered, grilling hot dogs, attending the jump house and handing out tickets for the drawings and backpacks to be given away.¬† Everything was free!¬† The food, the cold cokes and water, the chips,¬† the games and all the prizes.¬† Our guests were treated like royalty!¬† After a time of fun and games, Bro. Josh Combs from Maryland gathered everyone in and began to have more fun with telling the Gospel Message.¬† I could see the children began to be touched by the Spirit of God.¬† I looked around and not only the children but some of the parents were being touched as well.¬† When Josh asked everyone to pray there was a sweet presence of the Lord that came into the park.¬† One lady I prayed with was so moved that she was little frightened.¬† I watched her as tears began to form and she put her hands down quickly.¬† I asked, “Are you okay”?¬† She looked at me and said,¬† “I just feel like crying.¬† Why”?¬† I explained to her that it was the sweet presence of God she was feeling and that it was okay.¬† She began to pray again and this time wept openly before the Lord.¬† She did not receive the Holy Ghost but she will be taught a Bible Study.¬† I know she will come to know the Lord.¬† She will never forget what she felt.¬† Another lady that brought her family to the park told one of the ladies in our church, this story….”Two years ago when you all had the Back to School Bash, my children didn’t get a backpack.¬† I told you about it and you took my name and address down.¬† I didn’t really think anything about it, but then you showed up one day that next week with backpacks for all my kids, filled with school supplies”.¬† Then she said with tears, “I will never forget your act of kindness”.¬† One of her boys received the Holy Ghost and 4 of the 15 that was baptized was from her family.¬† You never know what a small act of kindness will produce.¬† By the end of the day at our Back To School Bash, 5 were filled with the Holy Ghost and 15 baptized in the precious name of Jesus.

Sunday, 2:00 PM¬† began our Kids Crusade!¬† From the moment the first praise went up to Heaven you could feel the excitement in the air.¬† The presence of the Lord was so strong in the Praise and Worship part of the service.¬† EVERYONE became kids today.¬† The Kids Praise sang and everyone was involved in,¬† “I’m Gonna Sing, sing, sing.¬† I’m gonna shout, shout, shout.¬† I’m gonna sing.¬† I’m gonna shout and praise the Lord.¬† When those gates swing open wide, I’m gonna sit down by His side.¬† I’m gonna sing.¬† I’m gonna shout and praise the Lord.¬† I’m gonna snap…I’m gonna clap…jump, bump…..zoom around the room…”.¬† You get my drift?¬† Ha!¬† It was great but it took a lot of energy.¬† Then they sang, “You are the one that I worship…”¬† and “Jesus! Everything I need is in that Name”.¬† How precious to see and hear these children sing praises to God.¬† Then Bro. Josh Combs again got us all going with songs like, “Jesus, You are my Super Hero”.¬† Great stuff.¬† Once again he told the gospel story in kids terms and did a superb job.¬† When he asked for us to come pray, the altars filled with children, hungry for God.¬† Even teenagers and adults were touched and reaching out to God for help.¬† To end all the festivities of the week-end there was a candy rain, with PLENTY of candy showering down to the kids. We had a great Kids Week-End.¬† Children are precious in the sight of God and I want to always remember that!

The Pentecostal Church put it on top shelf this week-end.¬† Or as they say now-a-days…”IT WAS OFF THE CHAIN”!

Whew!  What a week!  We flew out last Monday to attend “Because of the Times” conference in Alexandria, Louisiana.  There are so many blessings associated with this trip I’m not quite sure I can put into words how grateful I am.  We were going to drive to “Because of the Times” but Nathan received a phone call on the Thursday before we were going to leave on Sunday and the conversation went something like this…”Nathan, I heard that you and Ronda are driving back here to BOTT?…Well, I won’t have that.  You would be exhausted by the time you got here and if the Lord wanted to speak to you (and He will), you would be too tired to receive it.  You get online and get a ticket and fly back here and let me know how much when you get here….”  WOW! Can you say BLESSING!  Of course there is more to that conversation but I don’t have time nor space to put it all here. ūüôā  I got the best tickets I could possibly find and we flew.  Thank You! Thank You! Thank You to Bro. Anthony and Bro. Jim for blessing us this way.  Thank you just doesn’t seem quite enough for that kind of blessing, however it comes from deep within my heart.  We flew into Dallas, Texas and rented a car to drive the rest of the way to Alexandria.  It is about 5 hours and since we got in late and our luggage was not on our flight and we had to wait another 2 hours for it to come in, we decided to get a room in Marshall, Texas. My husband asked the desk clerk for a downstairs room so we would not have to take all of our luggage into the elevator and up to an upper level room.  He said, “Sure”.  Then he said, “I don’t have any king size beds downstairs”.  Nathan said, “That’s fine. Two doubles for tonight will do”.  When the clerk handed him the receipt to sign, the balance was 0.00.   Nathan asked, “how much is the room?”  The clerk replied, “I’m giving it to you tonight since I don’t have a king size bed downstairs.”  Nathan said, “You don’t have to do that”.  He said, “I want to. Manager’s privilege.”  So, what was going to cost us $115.00 ended up being free.  WOW!  Can you say BLESSING!  We got to Alexandria Tuesday Afternoon and began to prepare for BOTT. Tuesday Night service was tremendous and I knew we had made the right decision to attend BOTT 2009.  The theme this year was II Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.  All I can say is, buy the cd or DVD set and be blessed. One of the messages this week I felt as if the preacher was standing right in front of Nathan and I and preaching solely to us.  I know a lot of people felt that way but that is the wonder of anointed preaching.  It ministers to different people all in one setting. WOW! Can you say BLESSING!  On Wednesday afternoon a minister walked up to my husband and handed him something and said, “You and Ronda go have lunch.”  When we got outside and looked, it was 2 one hundred dollar bills. Wow! Can you say BLESSING! We had a good lunch. ūüôā  And then, Nathan turned around and blessed someone else with one of the hundred dollar bills.  That’s how it works isn’t it?  You give and give and then God pours you out a blessing you can’t quite contain.  You then turn around and give some more and then, God just does it all over again.  You cannot out give God!

By Thursday Night you are very tired at BOTT but you don’t want to miss anything so you still get there early and anticipate what the Lord might do next.  Well…Royce Wilson preached an incredible message.  Just buy the DVD.  I can’t begin to describe it and what I felt.  At the end of the message Nathan and I walked to the front to pray.  Sis. Vesta Layne Mangun got a hold of me.  When she gets a hold of you, you will probably be there awhile. ūüôā  We had the best time in the Holy Ghost.  She prayed, spoke in tongues, prophesied and we even danced a little.  This was another blessing too precious to really put in words. Wow!  Can you say BLESSING!

We left BOTT refreshed, renewed, lifted up and challenged.

Friday Evening we met Greg, Monya, Macy and Melody Henry in Dallas at Pappadeaux for dinner.  We had a great time with them.  Macy and Melody are growing up so fast.  They both made the honor roll in school and we are so proud of them.

After dinner we drove on up to Wichita Falls to be with Gene and Karla for the week-end.  Saturday we relaxed and just enjoyed being with them and Cameron and Chad.  Sunday was an incredible day of worship and the word. The power of God was so strong in both services.  It was incredible.

We got home last night and I am so thankful to be here.  We got out of Wichita Falls just in time.  I heard that they are iced in today. ūüė¶

God is good to His people!  I pray you all have a BLESSED week.  He has done marvelous things!

Wow!  Can you say BLESSING!

Today was a great day!  Our church gave away 200 turkeys for Thanksgiving.  People came to the church this year and it was awesome. Several of them wanted to see the inside of the church so we gave them tours. Now there is well over 250 people in Hollister that know where our church is.  They were all very thankful for the kindness shown to them.  There was food, music and testimonies.  Everyone really enjoyed themselves.  Tena Valenti, the outreach team and the church family did a superb job this year and put this one over the top.

Today was a very special day for a man in our church.¬† His mother was in service with him today.¬† You may think well, that’s not so great.¬† However,¬†this was the first time they have ever been to church together in their life.¬† The Lord has done so much for this man.¬† God has put¬†him and his wife and children together after many years of being apart.¬† I cannot go into detail about everything¬†his life¬†entails.¬† Just suffice it to say, Miracles never cease!¬†¬†¬†¬† I noticed his mother from the very first song we began to sing, “God Is Here”.¬† Part of the words are, “….Come and lay down the burdens you have carried, for in this Sanctuary, God Is Here”.¬† Tears began to roll down her cheeks and she lifted her hands and worshipped the Lord.¬† It was as if you could visibly see the “burdens” roll from her shoulders.¬† And then my husband preached an incredible message on “Lessons from the Potter’s House”.¬† He talked about how God can take your past and give you beauty for ashes.¬† And how when we become His we are new creatures in Christ Jesus.¬† Those of you in the church know what I’m talking about but to someone who has never heard this great message it is such a beautiful revelation.¬† We can start life anew.¬† Again I saw her as she wept and worshipped at the altar.¬† The most¬†precious thing to me was when she finished praying and her and her son embraced in a loving embrace.¬† I know that God is doing great things in her life and I’m so happy for her.¬†¬† She was not the only one that received this kind of blessing but it was just so precious to me that I wanted to share¬†this one¬†with you.
