Before you bombard me with, Christmas is a pagan holiday and that it was “created” by roman pagan traditions, I already know all the arguments. I know that Jesus was not born on December 25th. I know that all the gifts, wrapping paper, crowded malls, Santa Claus, reindeer, etc. have nothing to do with the true meaning of Christmas. However, I love Christmas! First and foremost because Jesus did come as a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, and this is when we choose to celebrate that fact. Secondly, I love Christmas because, there is no other time of year that you can hear songs such as, “Mary, Did You Know”, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, The First Noel, Away in a Manger….on the radio, in malls and stores everywhere. All of these songs and hundreds more declares to everyone that Christ came! Third, I love The giving spirit this time of year. I love the good times with friends and family at get togethers, banquets & dinners. I love seeing the delight in a child’s eyes when they open that special gift. I love seeing the delight in my grown children’s eyes and even my husband’s eyes when I give them that special gift on Christmas Day. And ALL of this is brought about because HE came! That’s the reason for all the celebrating. Whether or not He came on this specific date or even in this season, the world is once again faced with the fact that Jesus was born because we celebrate Christmas. That’s why I celebrate! Because He came, I have life and that more abundantly!
The following is an excerpt from Ziig Ziglar. He says it well:
CHRISTMAS! A Reason to celebrate!
You see, I believe it’s worth celebrating that Jesus came to earth—His birth signaled hope for all mankind. I believe that as he lived out a perfect life before God and mankind, he showed that he truly was God’s Son. And I believe that by giving his life up on a cross, he completely paid the penalty that my sins—and yours—deserve before a holy God. And it was made possible because of that first Christmas.
How could I not believe in Christmas? Because Christ was born as a baby in a manger, that’s more than enough reason to celebrate Christmas for what it is—a joyful occasion. I’ve experienced forgiveness of my sins and have the assurance of eternity in Heaven!

This is a picture of Nathan, Danelle and I singing, “Your Presence” at our Christmas Concert.  The words caught my attention as soon as I heard the song.

“In the busy Christmas noise, All the light, the bells, the toys,  I have found You are the only source of comfort and joy.

Lord, I want Your presence for Christmas.  I want Your presence for Christmas.  I long to hear Your spirit speaking peace to my heart.  Of all the gifts I may receive, there’s only one I really need.  And it’s Your presence, Your presence for Christmas.

When this Holiday is through and the year is fresh and new, what will linger are the moments spent, my Lord just worshiping You.

Breathe on me.  Breathe on me.  I want Your presence, Your presence for Christmas. “

I was thinking about this and how true it is.  In all the hustle and bustle of the season if the Lord is not present for our Christmas, it is not at all important.  This train of thought brought me to this, wouldn’t it be awesome if Jesus decided to return for us on Christmas 2010?  How awesome would that Christmas gift be?  Wow!  However, He decides to wait, I still want His presence to be present at my Christmas.

Have a very Merry Christmas everybody!  Be blessed in the New Year!

You can hear the song, sung by Sisters here:  http://youtu.be/E2dK_adVYzQ

Chirstmas Award

Jewel at Down In My Little Valley blessed me with the Christmas Spirit Award. We’ve just gotten to know one another through our blogs and her faith has touched me over the time that I have read her blog. Thank you Jewel. Another reason why I love Jewel is because she has my grandmother’s middle name. 🙂

The rules are to tag someone with this award that I know loves Christmas, and has Christmas spirit. They must link back to my blog to indicate where they were tagged, and they need to add 1 to 45 reasons why they love Christmas. So here goes!

Why I love Christmas:

1.  It is the one time of year that most everyone seems to be focused on Jesus.  Even though they may not know Him in all of His power and only think of him as a babe, I enjoy having them at least think about Him.

2.  It is the only time of year that secular radio allow songs with the words Jesus, Holy, Heavenly, etc. to be played on their stations. It’s a pleasure to listen to the radio during Christmas.  No, I never get tired of Christmas music.  I love it. 🙂

3.  I enjoy buying gifts for others.  It is fun keeping secrets and watching their eyes light up when they open their gifts.

4.  I love the houses all decorated with lights, reindeer, Santas, manger scenes, big lighted presents and Christmas trees.

5.  I love the smell of all the baking and cooking.  And yes, I love the food.  What other time do you make Snowball Cookies, Fudge and Martha Washington’s?

6.  I love going to church during the Christmas Season.  There is just something a little extra special during this time of the year.

7.  I LOVE the colors of Christmas.  Red and Green all over my house and nobody thinks it’s weird. Oh, and there are splashes of gaudy gold too. 🙂

Now I take great pleasure in tagging some of my friends: Tena, Mindy, Tina, Noel, Cassandra, Faith, Danelle, Susan and Becky.

Tuesday Night, December 16th, 2008 @ 6:30 p.m. the guests began to arrive at the home of Ron and Margie Abbott (Tulare, California).  Ministers and their wives from the San Diego area all the way up to the Sacramento and Bay Area came together for a great time of fun, food and fellowship.  What a great time we all had.  We ate and talked and talked and talked.  And laughed, and laughed some more.  Played a couple of crazy games together, thanks to Mickey Grogan.  We heard some very good “stories” from Gary Harding and Bill Parkey.  🙂  The meal was superb with salad, roast beef (bear meat), vegetables, chili beans that were awesome and the many desserts of which I tried to stay away from ( but I did taste the fudge).  🙂  Mmmm….good.  Then to top the evening off, Bobbie (Shoemake) sat down at the piano and we all gathered ’round to sing some Christmas Carols under the “direction” of Bill Parkey.  A great big shout out to Ron and Margie for their hospitality in opening their beautiful home to all of us.  We had a great time. 🙂  Merry Christmas!

Thanksgiving has come and gone.  We had another wonderful day with family.  Nathan and I are thankful for every time we get to enjoy a dinner with his mom and dad. 🙂  Of course we all ate to much.  I made sure that they all took home the leftovers, beside the turkey and ham. 🙂  I can’t have all the pies and cakes setting around in my house or we will eat them. lol  Anyway….we had a great time.

Nathan and I set up the Christmas Tree just now.  Put the Christmas wreath on the door and we are now “officially” listening to Christmas Music.  I’ve been listening to it for awhile now but Nathan refuses to listen to it until the day after Thanksgiving. 🙂  Ahhh….the joys of the season. I LOVE CHRISTMAS!

Talk to you all later.  Headed out the door to do something.  A little tired of the house right now. 🙂

Just Sharing

As the week has gone on and we have come through Christmas, I am hearing more and more about our Christmas Concert. Here is a few of the comments that are coming back to me from our guests: “Are your vocalists professionally trained?” “Everyone was so nice. We will be back.” “Wow! Very nicely done.” “I’ve never had so much fun in church.” “I felt something when Patricia sang, My Soul Does Magnify, that I can’t explain.” “Your pastor came out of his way to come back and talk to me, wow!” “Is everyone always so friendly?” One man got up in the middle of the concert and went to stand by my husband in the back and said, “This is so good, I can’t sit still”. 🙂 There’s more but for the sake of sounding like I’m bragging to much I will refrain and not bore you. 🙂 We did have a great time and I thought you might want to share a little more with us. God Bless You today!

As most of you know, we had our first Christmas Concert here in Hollister. I just want to tell you that it was really incredible. The chorale and musicians did an awesome job. We received so many compliments from our guests and also the church family. Needless to say, I am extremely proud of our music department for putting this one over the top. Also, all the ladies that helped Tina Evans and Brenda Pinnsonault put the reception on after the concert did an incredible job. From beginning to end this was a great success. I am already looking forward to next year.
