The following thread is what has been happening on my facebook page the past few hours.  Someone suggested I copy and paste it here on my blog.  I thought it a great idea so here it is.  I hope everyone receives a blessing by reading the great testimonies posted here.

You just never know. One of the men we baptized on Sunday is a result of the very first park service we had where we baptized his children. He came in contact with some of our people this past week and he remembered them from the park a few years back. He was ready for salvation and came Sunday, was baptized and received the Holy Ghost. You just never know what your efforts will produce.

Jason West Amen. My mom came to God by entering her name into a drawing for a Free Bible a the First Church’s Peanut Brittle Booth at the County Fair.

    •

Jason West ‎2 weeks later, a Family came knocking on her door downtown San Jose, and said she won the Free Bible, but she has to have the Free Bible Study that goes with it. 31 years later…here we are. I thank God for people that put time and effort of putting together that booth and sat that booth for hours, for a single mother to eventually push a 2 year old in stroller past it, and be drawn to it.

Ronda C Hurst Bro. Jason, That is incredible! Those folks’ crown will be full of stars. Heaven will be such an awesome place, just to see and hear the testimonies of how many people are saved because someone set up a peanut brittle booth at the fair and offered a free Bible Study.

Okay, Jason got me to thinking……..When my grandmother (Layne) received the Holy Ghost way out in West Texas (Mountain Top), she was the only one to receive it in that revival. The Lord spoke to an old time preacher man (Wilkins) to go …out there and have a revival. There was no church. He just went out and started preaching. My grandmother was touched and repented. She was so desperate to receive the Holy Ghost that she began to fast because she said that food didn’t taste good. My grandfather was an incredible cook and a Southern Baptist. 🙂 He was so angry that she was under so much conviction and not eating that he fixed a meal of Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Biscuits, Cream Gravy, etc and set it on the table and called for the children (Dean, Scoper, Murray[my dad], Doug and I can’t remember if Don was born yet) to come to the table and eat. He called for Grandma too. They all came, ready to eat. Grandma approached the table but when she stood there and looked at the food she began to cry and said she couldn’t eat. “What do you mean you can’t eat”, Grandpa said. She replied, “I want the Holy Ghost”. At that moment, she fell to the floor under the power of the Holy Ghost, speaking in another language as the Spirit gave the utterance. She was ecstatic! Grandpa was furious! Eventually, he received the Holy Ghost too. My dad (Murray L. Layne) received the Holy Ghost in a hog pen that they had cleaned out and scrubbed to make a prayer room.
Even though some may say that was not a successful revival, I must differ. If Bro. Wilkins had not obeyed the call of God to go then my Grandmother may never have heard the gospel truth. And, consequently my dad would not have heard the call of God on his life. Not to mention the countless thousands that his ministry has touched through saints and ministries that were under his. Including: Keith (his son), Linda (daughter) married to Wendell Elms (both sons are preachers of the gospel). Myself (daughter) married to Nathan Hurst (our son is a preacher of the gospel and our daughter is married to a preacher of the gospel). Karla (daughter) married to Gene Holley (both sons have a call of God on their lives). Like I said, Heaven will be an incredible place to see the many souls whose lives were changed simply because ONE man answered the call to go to West Texas and hold a revival and ONE lady received the Holy Ghost and this precious truth.
Do you think I’m going to give up?! Well, think again. This Truth and my heritage is way too precious to me to allow anything in this world to stop me from entering Heaven’s gate!See More

Sister thank you for sharing with us this great testiimony…I am a product of your father’s ministry, received the Holy Ghost in his church 1965 and have been preaching the gospel for 40yrs.

Your grandparents were very good friends with my …parents when we lived in Fresno and I remember many an evening visiting with them. What wonderful people they were. I remember Pop Layne testifying of how God had saved him and delivered him from coca-cola, among other things. Precious memories and their finger prints are on my life. I too have a precious heritage…again, thanks! God Bless…See More

Ok so after reading the testimonies here goes. Thirty years ago the church I was saved into used to go out every Saturday and knock on doors and offer free bible studies. They each took maps of part of the city with their route in yellow …high light. The men who had our area felt as if God told him to go off his highlighted route and to knock on our door. That day he spent 3 hours with us, my husband and I, telling us of the one God message. We did take the bible study, got baptized and received the Holy Ghost and I will never turn back!!! The wonderful thing is I found out later that my grandpa was a oneness preacher in the UPC and that my mom was raised UPC but because she was backslid and estranged from her heritage she raised us Catholic. Still God remembered the prayers of my grandparents, that I’m sure they prayed and brought, eventually, all of the grandchildren to baptism and allowed each of them to receive the Holy Ghost.See More

Ronda C Hurst ‎@Rene, That is so awesome! Holy Ghost Inspired witnessing is the best! What was your grandfather’s name? The Lord stored your grandparents tears/prayers in a bottle and when it was time He poured them out on you. Your testimony brought tears of thankfulness to my eyes.

We live in such a crazy and sin sick world.  The news is depressing.  You, like me have probably turned it all off for a few days at a time.  We just can’t stand to hear anything else BAD.  What I am about to write may seem to simplistic, however it is true.  If we focus on things that are lovely, of good report, etc.  our minds won’t be so stressed by the things of this world.  Give it a try and see how much better you feel.

Page after page can be written about a person’s life.  We call this a biographical view of an individual.  However, sometimes a biography can be summed up in just a few words.  These expressions refer to the character and/or impact someone had on the lives of those they lived around.  Last year, in our ladies ministries of the UPCI we focused on “Leaving a LEGACY”.  Usually when you mention someone’s name who has gone on to their reward you don’t go into a great dissertation.  You simply say things like, “He was a GOOD man”.  “What a man of WISDOM”.  “She was such a LADY”.  “She was a QUEEN”,  etc. and we all know what you are talking about.  That one word pretty much sums it up, how a person lived their life.

When Peter was sharing the Gospel with Cornelius and his household, before pointing to the Crucified Christ and the forgiveness of sins that can be received in His Name…He summed up the life of Christ like this:

Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

GOOD is what we can expect associated with God.

GOODNESS is what marked the essence of Jesus being here on earth.  He was GOOD to others.  It wasn’t because they deserved it but because it was needed and would ultimately bring glory to God.

When Jesus was to come on the world scene it was announced by angels with GOODNESS….Luke says it like this, “Fear Not, for behold I bring you GOOD NEWS of a great joy that will be for all the people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

Jesus came to earth during a time when there was definitely a need for some GOODNESS.  We live in such a time right now, today!  Among all the bad news there is need for GOOD NEWS and maintaining our focus on Jesus!  If we seriously focus on the GOODNESS of Jesus and portray that in our lives, then we will have opportunity to share the GOOD NEWS with people in this trying time.  Folks will want to know why you can be so happy and peaceful in this time of insecurity.  Keep your focus on JESUS!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus.  Look full in His wonderful face.  And the things of this world will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.

Have a GOOD Day for GOODNESS sake.

Yesterday was another incredible day of services at The Pentecostal Church.  It will be long remembered as one of the milestones in our church history.  When we are visited by God like this I find it very hard to write in words what happened and what it meant to me personally.  My husband has been under a special anointing here of late and it is just to hard to explain.  So many good things were accomplished in the Holy Ghost.  Nathan has always said, “God can do more in five minutes than I could ever do in a lifetime”.  So true.  When He shows up like He did yesterday….well, WOW!

I want to focus my post today on some incredible people; the musicians of The Pentecostal Church.  Kyle Valenti (electric guitar), Omar Iboa (acoustic guitar), Dominic Ingram (drums, bass), Nathaniel Hurst (drums), Danelle Silveira (keyboard, organ), Luis Lenzi (keys, organ, sax…),  Todd Valenti (keys, organ, bass…), This post is for you all.  I know that on our church web-site it has me listed on staff as the Minister of Music.  I don’t know how true that really is.  I guess someone had to take the title when our church was small. 🙂  Hopefully that will be changed one of these days.  The people that are named above and that I work with week in and week out are some of the most dedicated and talented people on the planet.  If you walk into The Pentecostal Church prayer room on any given service you will find these folks are some of the first to be there, seeking the face of God for that service and for the anointing of the Holy Ghost.  Sunday’s are hard to get into the prayer room before service because of our schedule, but you can feel the prayers of these people when the music begins.  It is not the beat or tempo of the song.  It is not just the excellence in which they play, but it is the anointing of the Holy Ghost that you feel.

Yesterday was no exception.  They gave and gave while the church received blessings. (I wonder how many times we sang, “Freedom”?)  That is okay.  That is our job description and our ministry.  However, after a long while in the altar service, I stopped them all from playing and singing and had them come stand behind the pulpit.  I told the church about how these folks play and sing so we can be in the presence of God to receive.  I asked the church, “However you can make music, do it.  With your voice or with your hands clapping and pray for these people so they can get lost in the spirit for awhile.”  WOW!  The church went to praying, praising and clapping.  Several of the men came to the platform and laid hands on them and the power of God came and blessed.  Our musicians received incredible blessings yesterday.  I am so thankful for what the Lord did for them.

Keep it up guys.  I just wanted to let you all know how thankful I am for you and your talent and dedication.  You are incredible.  Thank you for using your talent to glorify God and be a blessing to His kingdom.  I love and appreciate you more than you know.

P.S.  Danelle, when you read this don’t be discouraged.  I know you and Matt had to miss yesterday but your blessing is coming.  I appreciate and love you too for your dedicated life and talent.  🙂

I love how soul winning works.  In our Sunday service we had at least 20 brand new people.  We gave five people baptismal certificates from the park outreach and the downtown block party at SWBC.  We asked for others to stand that had been baptized at either event and 10 people stood up.  We will have certificates for them next week.  Also, in service was a man named John who no one knew how he came to be there…when asked, he said he knew some of the people who had been baptized and they had invited him to church.  I took care of his little 12 month old baby during Bible Class.  Her name is Tammy and she was such a little doll.  Brenda Pinsonault took care of her during the main service.  There was several others in service just like John.  They had been invited by the new ones who had just been baptized and received the Holy Ghost.  God is at work in these last days and I just want to jump right in the middle of it and be used wherever and whenever I can.  If that means spending the Bible hour in the nursery so a baby’s dad can receive something from the word without distraction, then that’s where I want to be.  If it means taking someone to get a hamburger and coke, giving someone a Bible Study on one of my “off” nights, etc. then that is where I want to be.  There is an old song that says, “Jesus Use Me.  Oh Lord, please don’t refuse me.  Surely there’s a work that I can do.  Even though it’s humble, Lord help my will to crumble.  Though the cost be great I’ll work for you.”  That has never been one of my favorite songs but the words seemed to strike a chord with me this weekend.  It doesn’t matter, just let me be part of what God is doing.  There are so many areas in the work of God that need to be filled.  There is a place for everyone!

How will the Lord use my life the rest of this year?  Next year?  This month?  Today?  Is there one thing I can do to make life better for someone else?  Can I warm the home of an elderly friend?  Chill out so a teenager can open up to my love and concern?  Knock on the door of a single mom?  The possibilities are endless.  God expects us to use our brains and figure out what we can do to make a difference.  Jesus Use Me, wherever YOU see fit.

Where do I begin? The highly anticipated week-end has come and gone and we are ecstatic and a little in shock and very humbled for what God has done.  Yes, We prayed and fasted.  We planted and watered seed and GOD gave the increase.  Soul Winners Boot Camp was above and beyond what we could have thought.  On the first night, Thursday, the presence of God met with us in a powerful way.  We were off to a good start.  All day Friday the sessions with Bro. Matt Maddix, Bro. David Smith, Bro. Tim Downs and Bro. Travis Worthington were packed with superb information about soul winning and also the presence of God.  A huge shout out to this team.  You guys were great!  We had 91 boot campers registered.  I must say that I don’t think I have ever been around that many people at one time that the only reason we were together was to reach the lost.  Boot Campers, your attitudes were awesome.  I so enjoyed having you here in Hollister.  Your hard work in walking the streets of our city and witnessing to people paid off, BIG TIME!!!

Friday Night we had a downtown block party and I stood in amazement as people were so hungry for God that they got baptized in their street clothes in cold water.  And then watched as God miraculously filled them with the Holy Ghost.  On Saturday we had an event in one of the parks in town and even though the day was warmer than the night before, I once again stood in amazement as people so hungry for God was baptized in their street clothes in the cold water.  And, once again watched as God filled them with the Holy Ghost.  My husband said he was overwhelmed one time when he saw three young boys who had just been baptized, standing together and praying, as all three of them began to speak in tongues at the same time and received the Holy Ghost.  There are so many stories to tell, I cannot possibly put them all here.  Just know that God moved in a sovereign way in Hollister this last few days.  On Sunday, the Lord met with us again.  Many of the people that was at the block party and the park was in church on Sunday.  One lady and her daughter received the Holy Ghost while the chorale was singing, “Everybody Ought To Know (Who Jesus Is)”.  They were baptized on Friday Night downtown and received the Holy Ghost today. 10 people received the Holy Ghost in our Sunday Service.

After service on Sunday our family took my father-in-law out for his 76th birthday.  While we were eating we received a phone call from one of the saints…she had invited her neighbor and a couple in our church over for dinner.  While they were eating and talking about the good things of God the neighbor said that she wanted the Holy Ghost.  They stopped what they were doing and began to pray and she received the Holy Ghost right there in her living room.  Like I said, to many stories to tell.

So…All totaled for this week-end:  70 received the Holy Ghost and 61 Baptized.

To my awesome church family, “The Pentecostal Church”…I cannot describe my feelings for you today. Proud, thankful, in awe, amazed…I know how hard you have worked and how much you have prayed and fasted for revival.  I did not see one person that was not involved in some way or other in this past weekend.  That is not hyperbole.  That is the truth.  There are so many details that go into a meeting like this and you all pulled it off with class and efficiency.  Nathaniel you did a superb job in organizing everything.  I am proud. 🙂  Your immediate team that you worked with was unbelievably good too.  Please allow me to say, as great as this was,  THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING!!!  God has opened the flood-gates of heaven.  We must keep working until Jesus comes.  Let’s take many souls with us from Hollister to dance on streets of gold.  God bless you all mightily.  Read more here!  See report from Nathaniel here.

Go to our church web-site for photos in the Soul Winners Boot Camp photo category.

On our blogs we have had favorite teacher surveys and talked of people who we felt have influenced our lives the most. We’ve asked each other the question, “Who do you consider to have had the most impact on your life”? These are good things and people to talk about. We all have “heroes”. There are surveys out all the time about who the most influential men and women are in the world. However, who’s impact/influence has stood the test of time?

Socrates? He taught for 40 years, Plato for 50, Aristotle for 40, and Jesus for only 3-1/2. Yet the influence of Jesus 3-1/2 year ministry infinitely transcends the impact left by the combined 130 years of teaching from these men who were among the greatest philosophers of all time. Jesus painted no pictures; yet, some of the finest paintings of Raphael, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci received their inspiration from Him. Jesus wrote no poetry; but Dante, Milton and scores of the world’s greatest poets were inspired by Him. Jesus composed no music; still Haydn, Handel, Beethoven, Bach, and Mendelssohn reached their highest perfection of melody in the hymns, symphonies and oratories they composed in His praise. Every sphere of human greatness has been enriched by this humble Carpenter of Nazareth.

Though some would like to deny it, the most worthy impact Jesus has had in the lives of men, women and children through the ages continues even today. How is His impact on you, today, personally? Is he still the beautiful rose of Sharon, the lily in the valley, the power that is found in His name, the one who gives you a song in the night….?

There may be many people to whom we are thankful for the influence they presently have or have had on our life. However, I hope and pray that the most influential people in our life be those who are also most influenced by Jesus Christ! Better yet, is that we have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. If we are under the control of His influence we can become the greatest influence in the lives of others as well!

“If people only knew how hard I work to gain my mastery, it wouldn’t seem so wonderful after all.” Michelangelo Buonarroti

All of us want wonderful things to come in our lives such as fulfilling relationships, good health, becoming widely respected for something we do well and financial freedom. But these things don’t just happen; you have to prepare the way for good to come to you. One way to begin is by doing for others. Here are some simple steps:

  • If you want to receive, give. Before buying a whole new wardrobe, give away some ill-fitting clothes to a worthy charity, like a shelter for homeless men or battered women. By thinking of those who have less, you may feel that you need less than you once thought.
  • Make choices. No one has everything at once, so narrow your goals. One woman decided that she couldn’t manage being both full-time mother and a law firm-partner. She decided to stay home while her children were small and return to work at a later date. She fulfilled her professional desires by volunteering her legal services to her children’s preschool.
  • Work toward your goal every day. If you want a beautifully decorated house but you’re low on funds, browse in stores and magazines for ideas. A clever way of arranging the furniture might inspire a no-cost renovation.
  • Be thankful for what you do have. The more attention you give to your blessings, the likelier they are to increase. When you nourish the good things in your life, they will gain strength and multiply.
  • Remind yourself that most lucky breaks are the result of patience and hard work!
