In September of this year, my cousin, Russell Pound began having chest and abdominal pain.  He went to the doctor and a chest x-ray showed some fluid around his lung.  A CAT scan revealed a thickening of the pleura, the lining around the lung.  He was diagnosed as having Mesothelioma after a biopsy was taken.  He was told that he has a  5% chance of living beyond the 13 month average after diagnosis.  However,  there was presented to them another option…to see a Dr. Sugarbaker in Boston.  Dr. Sugarbaker removes the offending pleura, the lung and part of the diaphragm, bathing the chest wall with heated chemo drugs.  So, now Russell and his wife, Barbara and their daughter, Tiffany are all in Boston.  They spent Christmas there.  I’m not sure how long he will have to be in Boston.  Their home is in in Tennessee.  I am praying this surgery and treatment work for Russell.  Will you join me in prayer?  Russell was one of my best friends while we were growing up. I would really like for the Lord to heal him completely and give him a long and prosperous life.

Russell, Paul, Michael, Me, Roger

These are my cousins, my mother’s oldest brother, James boys.  Michael passed away about 4 1/2 years ago.  He and Russell worked with my Uncle James in the pipeline construction industry. Over the years they laid many miles of asbestos concrete pipe.  They had no idea that the dust from the pipe could be lethal so wore no protection of any kind.  Just breathed it in day after day.  This is what has caused Russell’s problem.

Thank You for your prayers for Russell, Barbara and Tiffany. 51b4596e11e478a87a364a6

I believe God is able.

If you want to read more about Russell’s story, they have set up a CaringBridge web-site @ http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/russpound

The first response to any crisis is prayer; urgent and honest prayer. Before we turn to money managers and governments, let’s turn to the Maker of the Universe.

Max Lucado

You Have Our Attention, Lord
A prayer by Max Lucado – October 2008

Our friends lost their house
The co-worker lost her job
The couple next door lost their retirement
It seems that everyone is losing their footing
This scares us. This bailout with billions.
These rumblings of depression.
These headlines: ominous, thunderous –
“Going Broke!” “Going Down!” “Going Under!” “What’s Next?”
What is next?
We’re listening. And we’re admitting: You were right.
You told us this would happen.
You shot straight about loving stuff and worshipping money.
Greed will break your heart, You warned.
Money will love you and leave you.
Don’t put your hope in riches that are so uncertain.
You were right. Money is a fickle lover and we just got dumped.
We were wrong to spend what we didn’t have.
Wrong to neglect prayer and ignore the poor.
Wrong to think we ever earned a dime. We didn’t. You gave it. And now, tell us Father, are You taking it?
We’re listening. And we’re praying.
Could you make something good out of this mess?
Of course You can. You always have.
You led slaves out of slavery,
Built temples out of ruins,
Turned stormy waves into a glassy pond and water into sweet wine.
This disorder awaits your order. So do we.
Through Christ,

God will always give what is right to His people who cry to Him night and day, and He will not be slow to answer them. (Luke 18:7 NCV)

I am asking all my blogger friends to pray again. This time for Timothy Simoneaux (read prayer request below). God has heard us so many times and I know that this will be no different. His healing power can reach across the nations through your prayers and touch Timo. You can visit Timo’s blog here. Please keep the family in your prayers. I know at times like this they probably feel very alone so far away from family. However, I know that God can bring them peace and comfort. Thank you once again for praying.

Timothy (Timo) Simoneaux, a missionary kid from Africa, has bacterial meningitis. He has been unresponsive for five hours and is being air-evaced from Malawi to South Africa. They expect the plane to arrive within the next five hours. Please pray that the plane will arrive sooner and get him to South Africa. Please pray for God’s healing power to flow in Timothy’s body. Please pray that the family will have peace in this scary time.

P.S. To stay updated visit Tracie’s blog. She and her husband pastor in Conroe, Texas.  Vicki Simoneaux (Timo’s mother) is Tracie’s sister.

Please Pray

I am asking my blogging friends to once again join me in prayer.  A young lady, Bethani Roam is in surgery right now having a liver transplant. She went into surgery around 10:30 this morning and they said the surgery will take anywhere from 6 to 7 hours.  She is married to a young minister, Brian Roam and they have a beautiful little baby.  Please pray for Bethani, Brian and her family.  Pray that all goes well in surgery.  Her father and mother, Bro. and Sis. Bishop are also ministers and have pastored in Redding, CA for many years.  She has two sisters, Sabrina Flowers and Denise Bobo. They’re husbands, Tim Flowers and Scott Bobo are also pastors in Reno, NV and Carson City, NV. I don’t know Brian’s family as well but I am sure they are hurting too.   Thank you for keeping this family in your prayers at this time.
