I am posting this again.  The first time I posted this was 7/22/2006.  It has been one of the most visited of my posts.  I hope you enjoy and that you come in contact with the Master of the wind today.

Years ago, a farmer owned land along the Atlantic seacoast. He constantly advertised for hired hands. Most people were reluctant to work on farms along the Atlantic. They dreaded the awful storms that raged across the sea, wreaking havoc on the buildings and crops. As the farmer interviewed applicants for the job, he received a steady stream of refusals.

Finally, a short, thin man, well past middle age, approached the farmer. “Are you a good farm hand?” the farmer asked him. “Well, I can sleep when the wind blows,” answered the little man.

Although puzzled by this answer, the farmer, desperate for help, hired him. The little man worked well around the farm, busy from dawn to dusk, and the farmer felt satisfied with the man’s work. Then one night the wind howled loudly in from offshore.

Jumping out of bed, the farmer grabbed a lantern and rushed next door to the hired hand’s sleeping quarters. He shook the little man and yelled, “Get Up! A storm is coming! Tie things down before they blow away!”

The little man rolled over in bed and said firmly, “No sir, I told you, I can sleep when the wind blows.”

Enraged by the response, the farmer was tempted to fire him on the spot. Instead, he hurried outside to prepare for the storm. To his amazement, he discovered that all of the haystacks had been covered with tarpaulins. The cows were in the barn, the chickens were in the coops, and the doors were barred. The shutters were tightly secured.

Everything was tied down.

Nothing could blow away. The farmer then understood what his hired hand meant,

so he returned to his bed to also sleep while the wind blew.

MORAL OF THIS STORY

When you’re prepared, spiritually, mentally, and physically, you have nothing to fear. Can you sleep when the wind blows through your life?

The hired hand in the story was able to sleep because he had secured the farm against the storm.

We secure ourselves against the storms of life by grounding ourselves in the Word of God.

We don’t need to understand, we just need to hold His hand

to have peace in the middle of storms.

When I read this story I was reminded of a couple of songs my mother use to sing. One said, “I know the Master of the Wind. I know the maker of the rain. He can calm the storm, make the sun shine again. I know the Master of the Wind.” The other one had words like, ” ’til the storm passes over, ’til the thunder sounds no more, ’til the clouds roll forever from the sky…hold me fast let me stand in the hollow of thy hand. Keep me safe, ’til the storm passes by.”

For as long as I live, I will remember Mother sitting at her piano and singing that last song, “hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of thy hand….” as she battled cancer in her body. Her voice was very weak but her spirit was strong because she had secured things between her and her maker. I could tell and so could everyone around her that she was not afraid of the stormy winds blowing in her life. Thank you God for a mother that really did KNOW the Master of the Wind.

Today I found myself at the piano, singing a song by the title, “Jesus is Still the Answer”.   After having just turned off the news, this was the first thing that came to my mind.  “JESUS IS STILL THE ANSWER”.  It rang in my ears when I heard the news of the couple who left their baby in the car for 14 hours and the baby died.  It rang in my ears when I heard the news about yet another person killed because of someone driving under the influence of alcohol.  It rang in my ears when I heard the news of  another war and the newscaster said, “We are hoping for peace”.  “JESUS IS STILL THE ANSWER”.   The lyrics in verse two is what really caught my attention…”Some men pretend that things of this world has brought them peace of mind, but with the dawn of each new day, new thrills they try to find.  Not until they meet the prince of peace will they ever hope to find relief.  Jesus is still the answer for a world that’s seeking for peace”   Oh!  What would the world be like if everyone knew Him?
